Email Support

1. When I try to send an email, it's giving me an error. What's wrong?

The most common problem and first thing to check are your basic email account settings. Even if your email was working before and you have not changed any settings, Shaw or Telus may have blocked the default port (or sometimes all ports)  for sending emails from other mail servers than their own. If the settings are correct, then try logging in to your email account through a browser using Sage Internet's SquirrelMail site. If you can send a message through SquirrelMail, but not through through your email program, then the problem exsists somewhere on your computer or network and having a tech look at your network, system, and program settings would be a good next step.

2. I can’t receive email. What's wrong? / It's giving me an error when I check my email in outlook. How do I fix this?

The first thing to check is your basic email account settings. If the settings are correct, then try logging in to your email account through a browser using Sage Internet's SquirrelMail site and have someone send you an email. If you can receive a message through SquirrelMail, but not through your email program, then the problem exists somewhere on your computer or network and having an tech look at your network, system, and program settings would be a good next step. If you do not receive the message in your SquirrelMail inbox, then your inbox on the server may be full. To check how full your inbox is, log in to the Email Administration Area.

3. I need a new email account set up. What steps do I take?

The first step is to create an email account on the server using the Email Administration Area. Once the account has been created, you can either read and write emails using the browser based SquirrelMail, or set up an email account in Outlook (or another email program) using Basic Email Account Settings.

Read a step by step tutorial on how to set up an email address through the Email Administration Area.

4. I don't remember my email password / I need my email password changed. How do I change my email password?

Email account passwords can be changed though the Email Administration Area. Simply log-in using your domain name (website name) and your PostMaster Password and you will be able to change the password for any email account. You can also set up vacation responders and configure your spam settings. If you don't know your postmaster password, look in the email that was sent to you when your web site was first set up. We can look this information up for you, but please note that this time is considered billable.  [An Introduction to the Email Administration Area]

** Please do NOT change your postmaster password, as we will no longer be able to administer any of your email addresses **

5. I'm getting a lot of spam emails in my inbox. Is there a way to reduce the amount of spam I get?

Our email server is outfitted with a program called Spam Assassin that will tag any incoming email that it thinks is spam [learn more about Spam Assissin]. Once these emails have been flagged, Outlook can be configured to sort these messages into a 'junk email' folder so they are no longer clogging up your inbox [learn how to configure outlook to sort flagged emails into a spam folder]. You can also adjust how strict Spam Assassin is in marking mail as spam in the Email Administration Area.  [An Introduction to the Email Administration Area]

Be aware that spam filtering can affect a small percentage of non-spam email, so it is a good idea to check your spam folders occasionally for any legitmate email that was inadvertently filtered.

6. What is the Postmaster account and Postmaster password?

To log in to The Email Administration Area that allows you to administer all the accounts on your site, you are required to use the 'postmaster' account and the postmaster password that was supplied to you when the site was set up. (If you have forgotten your postmaster password, we can look it up for you - but the time taken to do so is considered billable.) This postmaster account is a SuperAccount that allows you to administer every email account on your site. Alternatively, you can log in to the Email Administration Area with your personal email and password to administer only the settings for that email account. [An Introduction to the Administration Area]

** Please do NOT change your postmaster password as we will no longer be able to administer any of your email addresses **

8. How do I set up an account on a Blackberry?

Sage does not provide support for setting up blackberry e-mails at this time. We recommend contacting your blackberry rep with your complete e-mail and password information. The following site also offers a visual walk through of setting up an e-mail account on a blackberry

-- Did you know? --

- You can check your email through a browser (Such as Internet Explorer or Firefox) - Great for Vacations or when using multiple computers. Just visit http://webmail.sageinternet.com/squirrelmail/ and enter your email address and password!

- You can set up your email account so it will send out an automatic customized response whenever it receives an email - this feature can be activated and deactivated easily. Great for Vacations or in meetings. Learn how to set up a Vacation Responder.

- A "Catch-All" account can be set up so if somebody sends a message to an email account on your website that doesn't exsist (either no longer exsists or there was a typo), the server can still catch this email and deliver it to any email address you choose. Learn how to set up a Catch All email account.

- Clearing your cache is reccomended for viewing recently updated websites. Learn how to clear your cache.

- An Alias is a "fake" email address that can be created to forward any incoming emails to one of your actual email accounts. For example you could create a sales@yourcompany.com alias that redirects to fred@yourcompany.com.  Any emails addressed to sales would be instantly forwarded to Fred.  Aliases have no inboxes, they can only redirect incoming emails. Learn how to set up an Alias.

If you need further support in any of these areas, we would be more than happy to help.  Please be aware that support is considered billable.
